Santa's Top Ten List

Santa's Top Ten List Sunil Angrish

As heard by PETER ORMOND

Citizens of the world. I've become concerned with the health of the planet, and all creatures, including humans like you. Therefore I've rewritten my list:

1. Plant a tree. Does it make sense to chop down trees to function as three-week decorations!

2. Humbug to candy-canes. Refined sugar is called white poison, and candy-canes are an open invitation to diabetes. Skip anything loaded with refined sugar.

3. Less is more. Reduce consumption: thoughtful gifts are simply more durable.

4. Skip the Walmart-ish mega-franchises. Be it coffee, food or household products, adopt this philosophy whenever possible. Support local independent business.

5. Buy locally-made products. Encourage today's crafty pioneers. They are building tomorrow's sustainable economy.

6. Get lost in a second-hand store. Experience the better quality and diversity. Plus no packaging!

7. Simplify. Do you really need a microwave? Some countries have already banned them. What about the clothes dryer or car?

8. Re-skill. Pursue new skills like knitting, woodworking, cooking, and other crafts: many pastimes that your grandparents took for granted.

9. Think ahead. Volunteer with a local organization that interests you.

10. Give the gift of time to someone you love. Help them out, take a nature hike, lay cards or simply share hot tea.
